How many people have spent their lives working really hard only to end up with:
I just want to say, well done for trying. Some things are the product of our own fault, but many things aren’t. You put in your best and life dealt you a nasty blow.
God appreciates you though. He sees all the effort you made with people that went unnoticed. Many years of cards, presents and paid-for meals can be thrown down the drain with one insensitive word spoken. You didn’t mean it and you’re sorry, but it makes no difference. All those tender words from you, giving up your time to help them move house, hospital visits, sitting for their baby, laughing together and sharing a pizza – all lost on a wrong sentence.
It can take just one bad financial decision to leave us penniless. Saving for a rainy day, being frugal even in the sales, and depriving ourselves of luxuries sometimes comes to nothing. The signature on that form washed your senses away with all your savings.
Good attitude and healthy lifestyle can still fail to prevent Diabetes, Cancer and Heart Disease. Sickness can creep up and say, “Boo!” at the fittest time of our life.
You can be cautious and careful all your days yet that two second lapse of concentration can have you stepping out in front of a car or driving over the edge. Numb spine, floppy legs, broken dreams, endless tablets and pain: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual.
You tried. You more than tried. You put heart and soul into that project, the job, your relationship, your life and it seems like it was all for nothing. It’s never for nothing. God sees every effort and counts each tear that falls. Like a father having compassion on his little son who has just toppled off his bike, God wants you to hear him shouting, that he’s sorry about the fall, he wants to dress your wounds and encourage you to not give up. He is there waiting to help you try again. And in the meantime, what does he think of your effort? Well done you!
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:11-14)
