The UK has lost a brave lady who was loved by many and it comes as no surprise that the thief of her life was Cancer.

A Sad Goodbye

It was only the day before, that I was reading in the newspapers that the doctors had given British actress, Linda Bellingham, just weeks to live. But the very next day, she breathed her last breath.

Stir That Gravy

For those old enough to remember, she kind of shot to fame playing the beloved mother in the Oxo commercials, but younger ladies will remember her more fondly for her treasured role as one of the ‘Loose Women’. Do not fear, foreign folk, the term ‘loose’ was referring to her tongue rather than clothes or behaviour, as this was a daily chat show where four or five female celebrities would sit around a large table with a studio audience in front them, and talk. For England.

Off Chemo’

Bowel Cancer seems to be one of the most aggressive forms once it has been diagnosed, and I’ve known quite a few people who have passed away within 12 months of the first symptoms. Linda’s spread to the lungs and liver but had time to say her goodbyes after deciding to come off medication for the last few months of her life.

It shows again, that this dreadful disease is no respecter of persons and that death cannot be escaped by anyone. Rich or poor, nice or nasty, famous or unknown, it comes to us all eventually.

Sure Of One Thing

There is a saying which goes:
“As soon as we are born, the only absolute certainty in life is that we are going to die.”

Are We Ready To Go?

But how many of us are prepared for it? If today was our last day, do we have the assurance of what will happen to us when we’re gone? It’s too late to think about it once we’re in the coffin or scattered across the river.

God wants us to have peace that floods us so much, that we don’t fear death. He wants us to see Jesus when we close our earthly eyes for the last time.

No-one’s Too Perfect

It doesn’t matter how lovely Linda was. No disrespect to her, but she will have had to make a decision on earth. Lovely as she was, if she made the wrong choice, Cancer pain is nothing compared to what she’s suffering now. I’m not being disrepectful of the dead and I hope she made the right choice, but goodness, loveliness, popularity and wealth are no passports into Heaven. (Which wouldn’t be so bad if the alternative wasn’t so dreadful)

The Bible says:

“God sent Christ Jesus to be the sacrifice for our sins. Jesus offered his life’s blood so that by faith in him we could come to God.” Romans 3:25

“The life of the flesh is in the blood and so it is blood that makes atonement for the soul.”
Leviticus 17:11

And so:

“God gave his only son so that no-one need be destroyed. God didn’t go through all the trouble of sending his son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted, but anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind God when introduced to him.” (John 3:16 Message version)

So, when we’re in that shiny, wooden box with it’s sparkling clasps, or mashed up into grey ashes rolling around a pot, it doesn’t matter what the Vicar is saying; if that person did not accept Jesus into their heart before they died, they are not at peace, but eternal torment and there’s nothing they can do about it.

Kept In The Dark

No disrespect to vicars and priests either, but most are sycophantic, telling grieved relatives what they want to hear. They themselves will have to stand before God one day and give an account of what lies, mistruths and deceptions they told people at funerals, which in turn, kept them from reaching out to God for forgiveness and ultimately, salvation from Hell.

Laugh Away – You’ll Find Out One Day

You get mad at me all you like. You can mock, you can laugh, you can call me brainwashed. You can tell me I’m a religious nut or just plain wrong. With all due respect to you this time, I don’t care, because one day I too will have to stand before the Creator of this world and explain what I did with the truth. Did I keep it to myself for fear of ridicule and uprising, or did I put my neck on the line so that someone else might have the chance to read this and come into a relationship with their Father? Dragged from a destiny with satan and given forgiveness, life hope peace…….Heaven.
